Privacy Policy - WhatsApp Privacy Blur
Last Updated: October 8, 2026
1. Overview
WhatsApp Privacy Blur is a browser extension that protects your privacy on WhatsApp Web by applying visual blur effects to sensitive parts of the page. This policy explains what the extension does and does not do with your data.
2. What we do NOT collect
WhatsApp Privacy Blur does not collect, store, transmit or share your WhatsApp data or your browsing activity. Specifically, we do not collect:
- Messages, chats or conversation content
- Contact names, phone numbers or profile pictures
- Media files (images, videos, stickers)
- Browsing history or activity
- Analytics, telemetry or usage data
All blurring happens locally in your browser. Your WhatsApp content never leaves your device.
3. Data stored by the extension
The extension saves your settings using Chrome's built-in storage (chrome.storage.sync). This includes:
- Blur preferences (intensity, which elements are blurred, modes, timers, schedules and profiles)
- Display names of contacts you choose to pin
- A hashed (SHA-256) PIN, only if you turn on PIN Lock — the PIN itself is never stored
- A randomly generated license ID and your Pro status (see section 4)
This data stays on your device and is synced by Chrome through your own Google account, if you have Chrome Sync turned on. We cannot access it. It is removed when you uninstall the extension.
4. Pro license (optional)
Some features need an optional one-time Pro purchase. To support this, the extension:
- Creates a random license ID. It is not linked to your name or email.
- Contacts our licensing server about once a day, and when you use "Restore license", to confirm your Pro status. The request contains only the random license ID and the extension name. When you restore a license it also contains the Paddle Transaction ID you type in.
- Opens our checkout page in a new tab when you click "Get Pro".
Payments are processed by Paddle, our payment provider and merchant of record. We never see or store your card details. Paddle's handling of your payment and contact information is covered by Paddle's own privacy policy.
Like any web request, the licensing server and its hosting provider can technically see standard connection details such as your IP address. We do not use this for analytics or tracking. No WhatsApp data is ever included in these requests.
5. Permissions we request and why
- storage — to save your settings, your random license ID and your Pro status
- alarms — to run scheduled actions (profile and stealth-hour schedules, the auto-blur timer and the daily license check)
- tabs — to detect video-meeting tabs (Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Whereby, Webex) for Meeting Auto Mode, to apply tab-title masking to your WhatsApp Web tab, and to detect when checkout is complete. Tab URLs are read locally and are never stored or sent anywhere.
- Access to web.whatsapp.com — to apply the blur styles and scripts on WhatsApp Web only
6. Third-party services
The extension does not use analytics or advertising services. The only third-party service is Paddle, which processes optional Pro payments.
7. We do not sell your data
We do not sell or transfer user data to third parties, we do not use it for any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose, and we do not use it to judge creditworthiness or for lending.
8. Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be shown with a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
