Privacy Policy - LocalRec
Last updated: October 29, 2026
LocalRec – Screen & Webcam Recorder is a Chrome extension that records your browser tab, a window or your whole screen, optionally with your microphone and webcam. This policy explains what happens to your data.
1. Overview
Your recordings never leave your computer. LocalRec has no servers that receive video, audio, screenshots or anything you record. There is no account and no sign-in.
2. What LocalRec stores, and where
Everything below is stored only on your device, inside Chrome's storage for the extension:
- Recordings. Video and audio are written to disk while you record, in Chrome's private file storage for the extension (the Origin Private File System). MP4 files you export are kept there too, so they don't have to be converted again.
- Recording details. The name, date, length, file size, thumbnail and any trim or cut edits you make for each recording, in the extension's IndexedDB database.
- Settings. Your recording mode, quality, countdown, camera position and size, and which microphone and camera to use, in
chrome.storage.local. - Pro license. A random license key and your Pro status, in
chrome.storage.sync.
Recordings leave this storage only when you download them. Downloads are saved to your computer's Downloads folder like any other file. Deleting a recording in LocalRec removes its files permanently. Uninstalling the extension deletes everything LocalRec stored, so download any recordings you want to keep first.
